"Sometimes I wish I could just hide away and protect everyone from me. I know I'm tricky to be with sometimes. I know it's hard to let silence be the guest that tags along with me. I know I'm not who I was. I know it's hard. I just wish I could give everyone a break."
"Whom do you think needs a break?"
"Well, I imagine you could use a break, Mom. This is just a whole lot to carry."
"Wait just a minute, here. Can you possibly imagine, in all of your days, anything that your children might encounter that you would walk away from? Can you imagine saying, 'Sorry, Tyler, but I need a break from this.' Or 'Sorry, Tuck. I realize you can't stop what's coming at you, but you're on your own.' Can you possibly imagine?"
Quietly, "No."
"Well, neither can I. Please don't protect me from being your mom. I signed up for this. Even if I never could have imagined it."

I love this post. You always know your Mom is with you thick or thin, but hearing it like this makes it concrete and palpible.
In a way, all moms are super heroes. Your mom is proving that!
You are such a great mom.... and clearly, you learned from one of the best! Your mom is awesome: I've always felt that way!
I think I've mentioned before that I read your blog and am blown away at how much wisdom you have. I know it comes from our LORD. It does. But it TOTALLY comes from your mom too. So stinkin' smart. That comes from the LORD too. I know. Just sayin'.
You.are.blessed! And your mom is, too. Moms don't get a break, by choice. :)
Yes! THIS is motherhood. May it always be so. Thankful for my mom who lives this as your mom does, Tricia. Prayerful that I may also always follow the example that my mom has set for me.
How blessed you are to have a mom like that! Praising God for her!
Polly, you've stated what so many of us feel and may not yet have had to voice. Thank you for being that kind of mom!
I wish my kids could see that even in my own pain this is how I feel about them. When each of my daughters had their first baby I said, "You know how you feel right now about him/her? That is how I feel about you every day. Every day."
