Crepe Paper

I am changing.

My eyes look different. Older.

This is aging me. My spirit is becoming older.

My face isn't as young.

My eyes crinkle like crepe paper.

I'll be 32 next month. That seems too young to feel so old.

And I don't even care.

It was bound to happen sometime.

I'd rather give my youth to a broken heart than hand it over to sun damage.

Bring it on, wrinkles. You tell my story.

Age me well.

I just found your blog through a friend. My dad died March 14th, 2011 of brain cancer. He was just 53, and I am only 26. Your writing is inspiring, encouraging, and mirrors the ache in all our hearts over the loss of our daddy, husband, friend. Thank you for your honest and raw portrayal of your husband's passing...my dad's was not as dramatic, but traumatic nonetheless. Thank you for keeping your eyes on Jesus, it encourages all of us to do the same! GOD BLESS you, comfort and strengthen you today!

You, my friend, are so downright beautiful through and through, stem to stern, tip to toe...I can't imagine "crepe paper wrinkles" doing anything than making you more so.

(As for how you're feeling, well, you ARE too young to feel so old. I wish it wasn't so. Still praying...)

Andrea,
I am so sorry for your loss as well; I am curious, was it a GBM? my husband of 31 years lived 13 1/2 months with his brain tumor (he had 3 surgeries, chemo and radiation) he was 56 when he died 4 1/2 years ago.
A book that helped me (besides the Bible) was A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittser. I know how hard the loss was for my adult sons (they were 27 and 29 at the time) as well as for me.
Tricia shares such insights about what loss is like; I want you to know I just said a prayer for you and your family. You will always have a hole in your heart, but God makes our hearts big enough to hold that saddness along with all the joys He brings us.
hugs and prayers

i think you are absolutely beautiful, through and through. in all your pictures, and especially in your writing, you show what a bright, witty, wise, beautiful person you are.... hopefully your thoughts of feeling old will slowly but surely dissipate...i can already hear it in your posts over the past 6 months. then, hopefully your "crinkles" will merely be laugh lines :)
