Words Are Things

Words are things.  I am convinced.

You must be careful about the words you use, or the words you allow to be used in your house.

In the Old Testament, we are told in Genesis that in the beginning was the Word. And the Word was God, and the Word was with God.

That's in Genesis.

Words are things.

We must be careful, careful about calling people out of their names, using racial perjoratives and sexual perjoratives and all that ignorance.  Don't do that.

Someday we will be able to measure the power of words.

I think they are things.
I think they get on the walls,
they get in your wallpaper,
they get in your rugs,
in your upholstery,
and finally into you.

Thank you for sharing this important reminder with us... such a well written picture of words.

Think of you often and read your posts that arrive in my email inbox.

You are a blessing, even in your pain, to me and many others - I know. Thank you!

I REALLY like the sentiment in this quote. I'm a music teacher and like to point out to my student that a rest isn't NOTHING, it's silence. Purposeful silence.

Having little boys (mine are 6.5 and 5yo) it's especially important to allow only certain words to be used.

Thank you for your blog and your words and your openness. You teach someone every day with what you have to share. I know that *I* have learned - and I've only been following you since November. :)

(Though I will to share that Maya's quote from the Bible is actually in John, not Genesis! Makes sense that she would remember "the beginning" as Genesis.)
